Fireman Harry F. Halpin, badge #963, served in the U.S. Army. He was appointed on 2/25/1974 and assigned to Truck 2. On 8/16/1980, at Station 3223, 237-239 Broadway, he was overhauling at a vacant three-story brick building fire when he stepped out onto the fire escape and it collapsed to the ground. On 8/20/1980, he died of severe head injuries. He was 33 years old at the time of his death. Harry Halpin even in death continued to save lives through the use of his liver, kidneys and heart implanted to keep life beating in other victims.
