Fireman Frederick W. Herrmann, badge #239, was appointed on 12/10/1901 and assigned on 12/16/1901, to Engine 6. On 11/1/1905, he transferred to Engine 17. On 12/15/1906, he transferred to Truck 2. On 6/8/1911, he transferred to Reserve and Supply 1. On 10/1/1913, he was detailed to the Repair Shop and transferred there on 10/15/1915. On 11/16/1916, he transferred to Engine 24. During 1916, he was commended for meritorious work in fighting a fire, resulting from an ammonia explosion on Elizabeth Avenue where several civilians were killed. On 5/5/1919, he was assigned to Engine 12. He later transferred to Truck 12. On 10/27/1938, at Station 1567, he became disoriented and collapsed due to asphyxiation by smoke and gas fumes at a basement fire. He was not wearing a mask at the time. He died from his injuries on 10/28/1938. He was 61 years old at the time of his death.
