Fireman John A. Curran, badge #265, was appointed on 6/3/1902 and assigned to Engine 5 on 6/16/1902. The same day he was transferred to Engine 8. On 1/6/1908, he transferred to Engine 14. On 1/8/1908, he transferred back to Engine 8. On 12/29/1928, he transferred to Engine 26 and was detailed to Truck 3. On 11/21/1929, at 4:19 P.M., Truck 3 was responding to an alarm at 73 Shipman Street. The truck was proceeding on West Market Street after taking a sharp curve from old Wallace Place, when just East of Rutgers Street, Truck 3 struck a florist truck at 174 West Market Street. F/M Curran was riding the side of the tiller section and was thrown to the pavement and was crushed. He died a short time later at the hospital of internal injuries. He was 49 years old at the time of his death.
