Captain George A. Jacques

Captain George A. Jacques, badge #605, was appointed on 5/19/1915 and assigned on 6/1/1915 to Engine 19. On 11/1/1915, he transferred to Truck 6. On 12/1/1915, he transferred back to Engine 19. In 1918, he served in the U.S. Army during WWI. He returned to duty on 3/14/1919, to Engine 19. On 7/16/1925, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to Truck 3. Later, he transferred to Engine 22. During a basement fire at Station 1567 at 11:20 P.M. on 10/27/1938 he became disoriented and collapsed due to asphyxiation by smoke and gas fumes. At the time he was not wearing a mask. On 10/28/1938, he died from his injuries. He was 45 years old at the time of his death. F/M Fred Herrmann also died as a result of this fire.
