Fireman Cornelius M. Nolton

Fireman Cornelius M. Nolton, badge #147, was appointed on 6/14/1993 and assigned to Engine 29. He transferred to Truck 9 and later to Engine 18. On 7/23/07, F/M Nolton was detailed to Truck 9 and was raising a ladder at a two-alarm fire at Station 1532, 137 Brookdale Avenue and complained of a back injury. He was taken to University Hospital and later released. Later that day, he was in severe pain and was taken to Valley Hospital where he was admitted. Two days later, on 7/25/07, he died. He was 36 years old at the time of his death.

Fireman Lawrence J. Webb

Fireman Lawrence J. Webb, badge #624, was appointed on 4/21/1986 and assigned to Engine 13. On 5/22/2001, at Station 3543, he was fighting a blaze at 47 Beaumont Place when he was found in cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 37 years old at the time of his death.

Fireman Richard A. Heinze

Fireman Richard A. Heinze, badge #382, was appointed on 1/12/1972 and assigned to Engine 7. On 2/14/1983, he transferred to Truck 11. On 6/1/1992, he was elected President of the Newark Firemen’s Union. On 6/28/1998, he went back to the field and was assigned to Truck 12. On 6/4/1999, Truck 12 returned from a run and a short time later F/M Heinze collapsed in the bunkroom from cardiac arrest. All attempts to revive him were futile. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 47 years old at the time of his death.

Fireman Michael J. Delane

Fireman Michael J. DeLane, badge #387, was appointed on 5/2/1988 and was assigned to Engine 13. On 2/6/1989, he transferred to Rescue 1. In 1991, F/M DeLane received two commendations for bravery and saving a life. At Station 3241, while fighting a fatal two-alarm fire on 10/29/1994, he and another firefighter on an aerial came in contact with a live wire. Although both men were electrocuted, F/M DeLane came in contact with the wire a second time and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 33 years old at the time of his death.

Captain Joseph P. McCarthy

Captain Joseph P. McCarthy, badge #420, served in the U.S. Navy. He was appointed on 9/24/1960. During 10/1965, he transferred to Engine 6. He was later promoted to Captain and transferred to Truck 12. On 11/24/1991, at Station 1644, during overhaul at an extinguished structure fire, he collapsed from cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 54 years old at the time of his death.

Marcus A. Reddick

Fireman Marcus A. Reddick, badge #836, served in the U.S. Air Force. He was appointed on 7/3/1978 and assigned to Engine 29. On 1/22/1979, he transferred to Truck 10. He later transferred to Engine 5. On 12/31/1985, at fire alarm Station 5119, he was attempting to rescue a woman from the second floor via a ground ladder. The woman jumped, grabbed F/M Reddick and fell to the ground. F/M Reddick suffered severe head trauma and died on 1/2/1986. He was 26 years old at the time of his death. Marcus Reddick even in death continued to save lives through the use of his liver, kidneys and heart implanted to keep life beating in other victims.

James M. Murray

Fireman James M. Murray, badge #245, served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was appointed on 6/19/1978 and assigned to Truck 10. However, on 8/12/1984, he was working a mutual swap at Engine 18. At a three-alarm high rise fire at Station 2115, he was operating on the fire floor when he became separated from the rest of the company. He was found in cardiac arrest and died. He was 40 years old at the time of his death.

Harry F. Halpin

Fireman Harry F. Halpin, badge #963, served in the U.S. Army. He was appointed on 2/25/1974 and assigned to Truck 2. On 8/16/1980, at Station 3223, 237-239 Broadway, he was overhauling at a vacant three-story brick building fire when he stepped out onto the fire escape and it collapsed to the ground. On 8/20/1980, he died of severe head injuries. He was 33 years old at the time of his death. Harry Halpin even in death continued to save lives through the use of his liver, kidneys and heart implanted to keep life beating in other victims.

DC Joseph F. Doll

Deputy Chief Joseph F. Doll, Jr., badge #470, served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later served in the U.S. Army. He was appointed on 7/1/1951 and was assigned to Engine 1. On 3/1/1959, he was promoted to Captain of Engine 10. On 6/19/1967, he was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned as a Roving B/C. On 1/27/1970, he transferred to B/C 4. On 1/14/1976, he was promoted to Deputy Chief. He died in the line of duty on 3/17/1977. He was 49 years old at the time of his death.

DC Lawrence M. Caufield

Deputy Chief Lawrence M. Caufield, badge #471, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was appointed on 3/16/1947 and was assigned to Engine 18. On 4/8/1951, he transferred to Truck 9 as D/C’s Aide. On 10/31/1954, he was promoted to Captain and was assigned to Truck 7. On 4/9/1964, he was promoted to Battalion Chief and was assigned to the 1st Battalion. On 9/2/1968, he was promoted to Deputy Chief and was assigned to Community Relations. He died in the line of duty on 3/13/1976. He was 54 years old at the time of his death.
